“We believe in people and we’re not trying to get rid of our crew members for efficiency’s sake or whatever…the reasons are [stores] put self-checkout in,” Jon Basalone, president and vice CEO of Trader Joe’s, told Inside Trader Joe’s, the chain’s podcast.
“Self-checkout is work,” TJ’s CEO Bryan Palbaum added. “I don’t want that.”
The term girl dinner took off on TikTok earlier this summer after creator Olivia Maher used the term in a video. Since then, girl dinner has since racked up over 1.3B views for its relatability.
Fast food chain Popeye’s was quick to jump on the trend. In July, at the height of girl dinner’s popularity on TikTok, Popeye’s launched a limited-edition “Girl Dinner” menu.
The new e-commerce feature, which fully rolled out in the US this month, lets TikTok users purchase anything under the fashion or life-hack sun with just a few clicks, right from the comfort of their For You Pages.
Parade, the four-year-old DTC brand that bills itself as “the internet’s favorite underwear,” was acquired by clothing manufacturer Ariela & Associates International this week.
